PT Ministry Training Course

Bible-centred foundational training in word ministry. equipping you to give Bible talks, lead a small group, or have one-to-one conversations, sharing the truth and transformational intent of God's Word.

Learn while you serve

Our one-day-a-week training course over two years* is designed to complement your service in your local church or ministry, meaning you don’t have to stop serving while you study.

This course is ideal for those who want to know the Bible better, teach or read it with others both in evangelism and discipleship. Whether you're a Sunday school teacher, youth worker, small group leader, elder, occasional preacher, or involved in one-to-one discipleship, we'd love to have you join us!

(Those wanting to be trained for future word ministry in a full-time or part-time capacity are recommended to consider Cornhill Training Course. This is a two-year, two-days a week course that covers the same material at an accelerated pace in the first year, and adds a further year of deeper and more extensive training.)

*option of only doing the first year

Take a closer look at our course

Mornings feature interactive lectures delving into biblical exposition (covering approximately nine Bible books) and major Christian doctrines (atonement, God’s sovereignty and free will), alongside an overview of the whole Bible in Year 1. The Teaching Practice sessions allow students to present Bible talks to a small group with a leader facilitating discussion, providing encouragement and constructive feedback. Students give talks from passages in Colossians and Mark in Year 1, and from Bible books covering six genres in Year 2.

The final lecture of the day covers ministry convictions, practical skills, church history, apologetics, and leadership characteristics. For example:

  • The meaning of prayerful ministry
  • Evangelism
  • How to understand and reach different cultures and backgrounds
  • Case studies in Church Planting and Youth ministry
  • Understanding false teaching
  • Music ministry

Optional weekly Greek classes are available at the end of the day in Year 2.

Students are expected to dedicate at least an extra half a day weekly to study.

Course Schedule Overview

Year 1: Choose either Monday or Tuesday for your Ministry Training day.

Year 2: Training takes place on Wednesday.

Living outside the UK?

We offer the PT Ministry Training Course online for those who live outside the UK and are proficient in spoken English.

Each student must be involved in a local church where they can be supervised and gain practical ministry experience, and can only apply with the support of their church leadership.

Students study by watching recorded lectures in their own time each week. They also participate in live weekly Teaching Practice classes on Zoom, with a small group of other students from across the globe, on Monday or Tuesday afternoons (Year 1), and Wednesday afternoons (Year 2), during term time. They upload their talk scripts in English and then receive feedback on these Bible talks both live on Zoom and in written form. A self-disciplined and organised student needs an additional half-day each week (or an additional full day each week where a student’s first language is not English) for study and preparation.

Students feedback

Hear from our students

The Ministry Training Course hasn’t just helped me prepare sermons and Bible studies—it has shaped my heart. Opening Scripture together, I’ve been encouraged and convicted as I see Jesus in all His glory and grace. This course continually reminds me that the God of the Bible is the great Pastor who cares for His sheep. My calling is to show people that through His Word, He cares for us. The regular rhythm of teaching practice has been invaluable. My church family has noticed my growth in clarity and skill as a preacher, and much of that is thanks to this course.
